You just invested in some seriously stylish custom clothing from Clark Kustoms. Whether it’s custom tees for your small business, spirit wear for your child’s school, or one-of-a-kind Spring Hill designs, you want to keep your threads looking as fresh as the day you bought them. Here’s how to care for your custom clothing to keep them lasting as long as possible. (BTW, these are great tips for any shirt you have in your closet!)
Washing
When it comes to washing your clothing, stick to cold water and wash inside out. Just like a cold plunge challenge is great for you, it’s also good for your clothes:
• It saves on energy from your hot water heater—about 70 to 90 percent of all the energy your washer uses.
• Most newer washing machines are built to be just as efficient using cold water as hot water.
• Your clothes will shrink less, wrinkle less, and fade less, resulting in a longer life for your clothes.
• Also, some stains, such as blood, sweat, and tears, may actually set in hot water, making them harder to get out.
Drying
If you want your custom prints and clothing to last longer than your love for the latest fashion trend, avoid high heat. Set your dryer to a low heat setting or, better yet, hang your clothes to dry. Your energy bill and your clothes will thank you.
Ironing
Got a wrinkle emergency? Don’t panic! While you can iron your clothes, try to avoid the printed areas. If you must, make sure to turn the iron down, don’t stay in one place too long, and only iron inside out on the printed area.
Bleaching
Please don’t—this one is simple enough.
Storage
When it’s time to put away your custom threads, stash them inside your house, folded up or on a hanger where they belong. Leaving them outside might lead to an unexpected fashion show for the critters. Plus, keeping them away from harsh environments will keep your clothes looking vibrant.
Caring for custom clothing isn’t anything out of the ordinary. Follow these tips, and your custom clothes will look great wash after wash.
